| The results are out and the *new* 7 wonders of the world are: Chichén Itzá, Mexico Christ Redeemer, Brazil The Great Wall, China Machu Picchu, Peru Petra, Jordan The Roman Colloseum, Italy The Taj Mahal, India The Giza Pyraminds are an honorary wonder:S. Anyways I'm pretty sure that no one agrees with the final 7 | |

| @ Everyone who voted for Taj I hope you thought twice about what happened to the crafstmen and architects once the taj was constructed before deciding to vote. I know that I'm being a little cynical as architecturally speaking, it is one of the most beautiful monuments but somehow that is a dark blot on the pearl white taj. | |

| @pragya: Yeah i guess ur right...and i looked it up on wikipedia and they're only supposed to be rumours anyways... And at the people calling it a marketing gimmick...guys how can it be a marketing gimmick when the results are based on the public's votes...obviously people are going to have different opinions...which is why i said in my previous post that I'm sure no one agrees with the final 7...i don't myself but then obviously they have to go with the majority. | |

| As for marketing gimmick etc., the show plans to use a very large part of their revenue generated for restorational work of monuments.. | |

| And how do YOU plan to come to know of their utilisation, knowing that our revenue-oriented media isn't going to cover something like that, and will instead focus on rape, murder, and people with half a drop of indian blood flying in space? | |

| If the organisation which started all this could generate so much media frenzy for the election process, then im sure it wont be a problem for them to atleast get a 5 minute spot on the news channels when they actually give the share of revenue IF they do | |

| Interesting Interesting http://inhome.rediff.com/money/2007/jul/09taj.htm@vaibhav And I'll tell you a fact. What the media WILL talk about is if the revenue generated is NOT in fact used for preservation of monuments as pledged as it does primarily cater to a country of cynics and doubting-Thomases such as etc. Thus, we'll get to know this way or that. | |

| A newspaper article threw some light on the issue.... Whosoever thought up of this idea, obviously had money in his mind....and I totally agree.... The seven wonders is such a huge campaign!!!think about it.....billions of people world wide, voting for their favourite monument, debating over which one should be included and which one should not.... For every click on that website, for every SMS sent, for every merchandise bought, the guy at da top,who came up with all this, earned some dollars. Otherwise, when we already have an existing seven wonders list, whats the need to upgrade it? And whats the point of rating a monument, when each monument has its unique beauty, charm and history? I feel that it wasnt right in the first place to compare monuments and rate them. I voted for the Taj too,but after reading this newspaper article,I realised that even if I wouldn't have voted......the taj would still be a Wonder of the World...... | |

| Actually, there wasn't any cohesive 7 Wonders List except that of the 7 Ancient Wonders, 6 of which are no more existent. This list is possibly the best effort till date towards narrowing down to 7 monuments as such. It isn't an upgrade.
And it's a democracy really. Anyone can do anything they want. It's up to us to endorse it or to decline to do so. As for the top guy making money, I'm sure he did accumulate a bit of a fortune.. who doesn't nowadays? But it couldn't have been too much because he'd clearly be in the Media Eye for it..

| That's because they didn't earn any to be able to source it to the monuments..
I believe the argument was that all the money was going into the pockets of the organisers? Well, that's not happening, is it? So where's the possibility of putting any into conservation efforts? They'll bankrupt themselves by putting all of their personal wealth into it? I don't think so!

| I'm not denying that he didn't earn a bit.. He didn't put all that efffort into it for the kicks!
But naturally, if they had amassed so much revenue, and were walking away with it.. it would not go unnoticed.
The problem with society is its million skeptics..
