U-Special- seeking photos and stories from colleges

Hey There College Correspondents!

In order to kickstart our project towards buliding a 'virtual campus' of sorts, the Campus 18 photography gallery is building up an interactive feature about premier colleges across major cities. It's called U-special ( after the DU day ferry -the dtc bus;) )

'U-special' seeks to capture those fleeting moments and special quirks that define your college and often make you nostalgic about your alma. The quirks can extend from the people around the campus-from the ubiquitous bhelpuri and banta wala to an admin bhaiya or staff having cult following or the opposite:)

This can mean also photos that tell stories ( from the insider's perspective) of the cool hang out spaces, lover's spots, most frequented nooks and crannies for bunking calsses, architecture ,cafe food and any other oddities particular to you college.

Other fun filled stories can be told by pics from the college events and fests where you have let you hair down and got jiggy.

To explain in brief, for instance we found out these interesting nuggets of info about St Stephen's College in Du:

1Café and Dhabha – a round tree called “Dhaba”. Rothas is the name of the guy who handles it. Mohan is the guy in café. He’s been there for the past 35 years.

2 Cutlet which is famous in the café and even the old alumni come back to eat it.

3. Couples go to a garden behind the college which is the DU gardens, but its called “Laila Majnu Park” to make out.

4 Freshers in the hostel have to go through a process called “Unda-Tamatar party” which happens in October/November.

5 Dinner party in the mess called “Rudra dinner – for girls” or “All Nutt dinner – on 14th feb”, where people dress in formals or sarees and then go for dinner. They stand out.

6 University barber shop called Masterji – earlier he was barber for Stevens, but now he’s near Gwayor Hall, near the university and he’s the only barber in the university.

7 Library – the make out place for couples...



and so on...we went on hunting for photos that would help us tell the stories.. We got some and many we haven't. All we need now is similar quirky details and photos from other colleges in Delhi , Mumbai, Kolkatta, Bangalore...to make this feature a kickass one:)

St. Stephen’s: Allnut north guys/gays association. Traditionally the most
shareef of all the blocks. Also, the most incestuous... and the most in
love with each other, maybe

“All Nutt dinner – on 14th feb”, where people dress in formals or sarees and then go for dinner. They stand out.

Hindu College: “Virgin Tree”, the most happening place in the college! Every year on 14th feb, a student dresses like a pundit and worships the tree. They decorate the tree with condoms and distribute ‘prasad’ after the puja. They believe that if you don’t have a girlfriend/boyfriend and you eat that Prasad, you’ll get it within a year!!!

The sunny lawns of LSR where students sprawl in winters pretending to study...( doesn't seem here tho:)

Ramjas: Lacchu bhaiya in front of Ramjas- people swear by his bantas which he has been selling for 15 years now.

Tingu the toffeewallah at Kirorimal college: legend has it that he is a classmate of none other than Amitabh Bacchan!

Harmony- St. Stephen's fun-filled fest.

These kinda things are seen in our college on every thursday whenevr there is a special assembly. While the whole college is 98.97% decorated with beautiful panels made by the fine arts society-hive.
P.S. This one is me and my friends work:D

The wall of democracy... in front of the DUSU office in the north campus is used by teachers, students and even by those in the administration to stick bills,,//,, it also serves as a notice board,,, and u know wat.... we have five such walls in the campus..... one in south and the other four in north....
the walls report the various happenings in the campus-fests, strikes:scratch: , co- curricular events, wishes, messageses etc etc

vey bad.,.. very bad.. partiality,,,, only one in south!!!!!! ....

Those are nice pictures! They give a sense of place and I'm sure you have an awesome time hanging around at that maggi point!
