PostSubject: Post about your college   Tue Jun 05, 2007 4:37 pm

Write an entry in about 250-300 words about your college. What courses does it offer. How is the college rated as per DU students and standards etc. Make it as wacky as possible; it should be fun to read and at the same time convey the meaning. :bball:

This entry is very important as it will be posted on the opening page of your respective college chapter.

Kirori Mal College....aaahhhh....dis shouldt be tough!!! better known as the "gunda" college of north campus, all i can say about kmc is...that looks can be deceptive!!!

Bhim Sen Singh..our principal, likes his cows more than he likes the students, and they are allowed to roam freely in our fields, and not us. But contradictory to his media image, he is one of the sweetest principals i have come across. He reallt takes the pains to listen to any random student of the college (which not many other principals do, you can contact me if u wanna know the details...lolzz). It offers an amazing number of courses, including Hons courses in languages like bengali and urdu, which not many other colleges offer. The staff here, is really cordial (Economics Department being the best....aahhh...i know am being partial).

KMC is the hub of extra curricular activities(read ECA)...Players, the dramsoc of the college is one of the best in DU as well as among the other indian universities. Apart from this, the college also boasts of The Debsoc (which by the way again has been ruling the debating front for quite a long time now)...FAPS, the fine arts society, yet again is a landmark in itself. The Musoc has generated some of the finest talent in DU....Sensation, the dance society just got registered a few months back, but has been ruling teh student's hearts for over 5 years now. It rocks (have been a part of it for a year....miss it loads)!!!! So basically, kmc is definitely one place where your talents can't be hidden for long!!!

It is definitely one of the good colleges in DU, with its cut-offs soaring higher and higher each year!! Plus....the most important thing....Amitabh Bachchan's from kmc....that's one alumin we sure can boast off!!!!

heya....
i'm Runjhun... lemme intoduce my college to u guyz....

MAHARAJA AGRASEN COLLEGE
MAC is one of the youngest colleges in
university of Delhi.... and FINALLY… FINALLY … FINALLY is privileged to have a permanent principal
Smile… Dr. Sunil Sondhi (A Political Scientist of repute)
has proved himself in just three months… the college interiors have
changed
drastically. As per him, soon our college is going to be fully air conditioned.. Smile
Taaddaaaaaa... !!
So now we wont have to sit with
umbrella's in the class during monsoon (no I am NOT exaggerating) ...
and no more stinky loo(z) on the entrance of our college..... hehe..
On a SERIOUS NOTE… we really have high hopes from him..

INFRASTRUCTURE
As
for now, the college is housed in a temporary Govt. school building
(which is surely not so bad) .... But the college has 10 acre of plot
in Vasundra Enclave for construction of a permanent building..
However we have fun in the small stuffy class rooms (no not what
u r thinking…) and have the honor of enjoying the weirdest cafeteria on
earth…
we have this D.D.A park attached to our college cafeteria,
which is popularly known as the BUNKING ZONE.... from lovers to loafers
or repute and no repute… can all be traced here doing what they are
best at… whateva that is Wink !!!! ahh'.... !!

ACADEMICS..
Academically this institute has high level of excellence and offers various courses, some of which are top rated in D.U !!
* B.B.E and Journalism Honors (MY SUBJECT : D) are the two courcez that are truly sought after!!

we genuinely have one of the BESTEST faculty in D.U..

E.C.A
On the extra curricular front MAC ROCKS HARD (like
in all other fronts).... we organize events like the fresher's day,
Annual day, farewell parties, the sports day and of course the Annual
cultural festival - ' PLEXUS' (I guess for the plaster of paris all around : P )
we
have excellent performers in various departmental societies. like
Anant, which is the street theater group is exceptionally good.. then
we have great singers , dancers and fashion pageants... that make the
crowd go gaga..... !!

ALL in ALL

I'd say my college's like my country… why?... Coz there's a lot that's already done… and a lot that still needs to be… and yet both ROCK! Smile

VIPS.....this stands for Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies... this is my college and if I had the choice of rephrasing it, I would call it a Vivaciously Intelligent Planet of SMUBS.....SMUBS would be Spontaneous Morons with Ultra Brainy Sources! pirat

awrite....so 'v' shall do this the systematic 'v'ay....rabbit

LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
The college is a part of the IP University of Delhi.
Sans campus and the general greenery, it is situated bang in the middle of a very crowded and industrial area of 'V'est Delhi near Moti Nagar.
The college itself is a huge, black glass building...u enter and u come face to face with the jovial chowkidar who greets everyone with 'hare krishna' or 'radhe radhe' and talks in rhymes....seriously!Surprised
There are spiral staircases, a dark dingy basement and corridoors......sounds more like a spooky mansion!affraid

We have a library, a table tennis room( which is right next to the classroom....so 'v' have quite a lively time all the time:cheers: ), and a small hole in the 'v'all in 'v'hich 'v' put in our head, order the food and bring it out again....thats the canteen:cherry: ...its so different..

The college offers three courses....BJMC, LLB and BCA...LLB is the oldest and BJMC the best in here...it is one of the best institutes for bjmc in IP univ...

ACTIVITIES
Lack of a proper campus does not prevent the 'v'ipsians from having their share of fun.....'v' have activities happening all the year round...the most awaited is the college fest called SPANDAN...its a 4-day media event managed entirely by the students of the fifth sem as a part of their practical training in event management.....'v' get to organise everything...right from getting sponsors to ambience work and catering and hosting and performing at the grand finale ....its loads of work and loads of fun!sunny

The college offers opportunities to showcase our talent all the time....so 'v' have a whole lot of budding filmmakers who get a chance to screen their films every now and then....and writers who get to sharpen their skills by working in the college magazine 'AHVAN'....and a crowd with amazing PR skills!Like a Star @ heaven

ACADEMICS
Apart from this 'v' are in the habit of 'v'inning most of the competitions 'v' participate in:afro: ...and academically 'v' shine throughout!geek

The faculty is almost bindaas....strict and fun....tangy and sweet....a good mix....very strict about attendance though!Smile

THE GRAND FINALE
Finally, a word about the greats of our college....

  • RJ Swati Sharma of Red FM is apni bandi
  • RJ Siddhant of Big FM is apna banda
  • We have a plethora of award winning films in our kitty
  • And I shall too become the great one someday!!pig

Well...this is my college....its one of its kind...its fun...its a goldmine of opportunities...and our motto is

"VIPS ki goli lo....masti mein life ko samjho"...amen:pirat:

St. Stephen’s College

Hello Friends

Read on to find out what’s more to stephanians besides there much talked about attitude and controversies.

Brief historical Back ground

Founded in 1881, founder and first Principal was Revd Samuel Scott Allnutt. Our Principal is Revd Valson Thampu (finally after all the confusion….). The students in St. Stephen’s are Junior members and the staff members are the Senior members. The College motto is " Ad Dei Gloriam " the Latin for " To the Glory of God". The College colors are martyrs' red and Cambridge blue.

Though quite old the college campus is beautiful and very well maintained. The lush green lawns and the red brick building give it a Mughal garden effect- calm, green and romantic.

Courses, Facilities and Societies.

St. Stephen’s offer’s the following courses: B.A (Hons.) History/ Economics/ Mathematics/ Philosophy/ English / Sanskrit; B.S (Hons.) Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Physics; B.A. Programme; B.Sc. Programme; M A in Economics/ English/ History/ Mathematics/ Operations and Research/ Philosophy/ Sanskrit; M.Sc. in Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Operations and Research/ Physics.
Hostel facilities are also available in the college premises. There are in all six resident blocks out of which 2 are for girls and 4 for boys.

Coming to college life St. Stephen’s College has got loads off opportunities to offer- Be it the huge library which we rarely visit or the various societies such as photography, hiking club, dance, music, theater, and many more, not to forget the festivals, events and seminars that happen all year round. The sports facilities include squash, badminton, Basketball and tennis courts; provision for cricket, soccer and other sports besides a gymnasium for students. Also there is an Internet café though meant for research but is used for orkutting only….

Hangout places

Nescafe right at the entrance where you find all those who could not make it for the first lecture or are bunking it and the gang of ‘Wella’ people just chilling out having ice tea, smoking and gossiping…. Arts Dhaba or the dhaba tree is famous for samosa’s chilled nimbu and yummy gulab jamuns in winters and here you will also find the rare visitors to college, I mean the ones you don’t see in classes.., Café is famous for mince cutlets, Maggie… (List goes on) and a so called no smoking zone. Science dhaba near the baski courts is open till 1:30 am in the morning, ragging at science dhabha is famous where Fuchas r asked to do pole dance. JCR is another cool place to be its got T.V., TT table, and carrom room in short a nice place to chill out.

Stephanians

Annual College Fest “Harmony” which is only for Stephanians, unlike what it is called is full of screams shouts music and masti with activities like newspaper dance, pole dance, momos eating competition and performances…

To talk about Stephanians, Yes they have ATTITUDE!!! And loads of it, be it the sportsies who r almost flunking all through the year (god knows how do they score in year end) or the not so often seen- outstanding people (often chuked out of lectures). But end of the year we work, stephanians are well read and have an opinion of there own; the Busiest socialites in town they just need a reason to party-birthdays, caste party’s, conti’s, Prom and at times to just chill out, after all that’s where the gossips come from…;-)

SRCC

SHRI RAM COLLEGE OF COMMERCE – Woof!!!!!!! The name speaks for itself – the sans pareil institution , the dream destination , of stupendous reputation and the nucleus of the sharpest by definition….

Is that getting too much to handle??? J..so lets get down to some real real stuff ;-)

HISTORY

Established in the year 1926 by Sir Shri Ram , it made a modest beginning at Daryaganj in Old Delhi where it was first situated. From then to now, it has come a loooong way.

This red brick imposing structure now stands TALL( Pun intended ) in the heart of the bustling North Campus where it shifted to in 1957. It is spread over a 17 acre sprawling campus.

But, I must tell you something , ethough at the cost of sounding a bit boastful J..SRCC has been declared a heritage building with a Re. 1 crore grant from the government to make it centrally air-conditioned , to build a sports complex blah blah blah blah…oohh!!! I am desperately waiting for that day….

COURSES OFFERED AND FACULTY

For the uninitiated, SRCC is the numero uno college of commerce in India offering 2 undergraduate courses;

· B.COM (HONS)

· ECONOMICS (HONS)

And 1 post graduate course ;

· GLOBAL BUSINESS OPERATIONS(GBO) – equivalent toMBA.

The presence of famed authors in the faculty attracts the choicest minds from all over the country.

Now lets come to the principal DR. P.C JAIN. He is just like one of us hanging around college through the day , interacting with students. Sometimes we really wonder, “ is he really our principal “.Perhaps he does not fit into the cliché.

Hey, before I forget..let me tell you an interesting piece of news..OK, SRCC has misplaced its foundation stone and the principal is going nuts looking for it.Maybe that’s the reason he keeps roaming around college through the dayJ..lol..

SRIITES

Now lets come to the more interesting stuff – THE CROWD…Well..SRCC is supposed to have the ‘hippest’ crowd in North Campus ( which I really didn’t believe initially. I mean how do you expect a faccha getting into ‘THE SRCC’, to get to believe that , when all he/she is expecting is geeks and nerdsJ).

But believe you me, this really is true.

I can say this, specially after visiting other North Campus colleges…Uggghhh!!1…It might not be the hippest ( oh! I am being modest), but it surely is the most sophisticated and classy – as they day , we are ‘A CLASS APART’ ( where has the modesty disappeared now J)

HANGOUT POINTS

Unlike other colleges , where the canteen is the ultimate hangout place , for us SRiites , it’s anything but the canteen..coz there is only one word for it ‘BAD’…they should seriously do something about the quality of food..ooohh!!!! its sooo oily L..

But, but , but we have our IRFAANZ and oh! We are proud of it. For those who don’t know , it is a small snacks stall run by Irfaan bhai, right next to the sports field, with huge shady trees all around. At any given time, you will guys and gals here just lazing around.

Apart from this, we also have the stairs outside the co-operative store. You will any and everyone here.

And here goes our pet line…’see you at the co-op’..

And how can I forget the well manicured front lawns, specially during winters..oh! its heavenJ..here you will find students doing everything under the sun ( both literally and figuratively ).

NOTABLE ALUMNI

· Arun Jaitley , politician

· Late Lalit Suri , hotelier

· Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra , filmmaker, of RDB fame

· Shiv Khera , inspirational speaker and writr

· Sanjiv Sanyal, economist and environmentalist

So ladies and gentlemen, that’s my college for you..and here goes our unofficial college motto ‘WE ARE LONELY AT THE TOP’ J..Sooo..what about joining us over a cuppa coffee J..

PostSubject: Lady Shri Ram College for Women... :D   Sat Jun 16, 2007 3:24 pm

Q. So, whats LSR, and whats the big deal?
A. LSR stands for Lady Shri Ram College for Women and it is a part of the Delhi University.
The big deal is that LSR has consistently been ranked among the best Arts colleges all over India. LSR also has many eminent alumni- such as Aung San Suu Kyi, Naina Lal Kidwai, Uma Sharma, Sushma Berlia, Lillette Dubey, Nidhi Razdan, Sabina Sehgal... and many more to come, hehe Wink

Q. So what all goes on in LSR?
A. You mean the studies, activities and stuff?
LSR is primarily an Arts college, so it offers courses like
# B.A. Programme
# Economics
# Education
# English
# Hindi
# History
# Journalism
# Mathematics
# Philosophy
# Political Science
# Psychology
# Sanskrit
# Sociology

Apart from that, there's B Com as well, and a diploma course in Conflict Transformation and Peace Building. Language courses in Spanish, French and Russian are also offered at LSR.

Activities-wise, LSR is quite at the forefront, with Socs all over the place Wink
There's the English/Hindi Debating Societies, Indian/ Western Music Societies, Dramatics Society, Projekt (film & photography society), Hive (art society), Dance Society, Quiz Society, Prakriti (environmental awareness society), Expressions - the writing society, SPICMACAY, Women's Development Cell, Academic Forum, as well as the VAPP cell which focuses on community development.

Q. What's so cool about being a women's college?!
A. Ohh there's quite a few things Wink
Apart from Samridhi's wonderful post here -which is general to all women's colleges - there's the absolute coolness of being free of all inhibitions, and having a sense of being empowered to conquer the world!! Watch for it, girls' college girls everywhere carry themselves with a certain confidence and drive that is distinctive. We're focused and driven, and we have our priorities right. Smile

Q. Aalllriiiight... and what's so cool about LSR?
A. EVERYTHING. Srsly Wink

From our gorgeous backlawns... to our coool cafe, and the ruins behind... our awesome common room and Audi, where something or the other is ALWAYS going on... amazing professors... all the various societies... the bhelpuri wala outside!... GK I market nearby... every single thing.

When you step into LSR, its a different kind of atmosphere altogether. Its hard to put it down in words for those who don't know it... The very air has the tang of being in motion, working and striving hard for a goal, and having looads of awesome fun along the way!

You can never get bored inside the campus. There's ALWAYS something or the other going on - some speech, lecture, seminar, workshop, performance, rehearsal, etc etc going on... Never a dull moment in the college! There's a big Library and internet center as well. Our college has the distinction of swarming with students till 7 in the evening!!

Q. And... we've heard... about LSR being... a feminist college?
A. Does that scare you?

Q. What's the feminism at LSR like?
A. We believe in empowering women, to enable them to do everything and anything they want. Women should be able to have a space for themselves in society, and be able to make choices.

Q. So is there anything uncool about LSR at all?
A. Hehehehe... well, we're a little short of classrooms right now... and the cut offs are a little high Wink And we're quite separated from other colleges, be it South Campus or the Gargi-KNC cluster, which is kinda sad. Whattodo. :/

Q. Can guys ever enter the campus?
A. They must be very very nice and impress the watchman with the fat lathi outside the gate!
During admissions, and the various fests that go on, as well as competitions.
Then there's Tarang, which is the Annual Cultural Festival of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, which brings together young, talented enthusiasts from colleges across India making it one of the largest youth festivals of the country. Its always a rocking affair!
At other times, its pretty much a girls only affair. Do check out the number of guys lining up at the parking space in front of the college!

And finally, I'd just like to say...
Phool nahin, Chingari Hain hum!
LSR ki naari hain hum!!!

Hindu College was started by Rai Bahadur Krishan Dass Ji Gurwale way back in 1899. At that time Delhi University had not come into existence, so Hindu started out as an affiliate of Punjab University.
One of the first students on the rolls of the College was Sir Shri Ram, who later went on to become Chairperson of the Governing Body of the College. LSR and SRCC colleges, as well as The Sri Ram School in Delhi are named after him.

The College was initially housed in Kinari Bazaar in Chandni Chowk and moved to the present premises only in 1953.

As the official website puts it, the College was a "centre for intellectual debates during the freedom struggle" and students and teachers responded enthusiastically to the Quit India call. Eminent personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Annie Besant, Lokmanya Tilak, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Sarojini Naidu and Jawaharlal Nehru have addressed students at the College.

Academics

Hindu offers bachelors degrees in various disciplines of study spanning arts, sciences and commerce. The college traditionally has some of the most competitive cut off lists in the university. Sought after courses include History, English, B.Com, Economics, Maths, Zoology, Botany, Hindi and Political Science.

Infrastructure and Facilities

The college has one of the largest campuses of all the colleges of DU, and includes in its premises a men's hostel [which can accomodate 200 students], botanical gardens, a large sports complex, a state of the art seminar room, a library, music room, the largest auditorium on campus and teachers' accomodation.

The College has several computer rooms, a cyber cafe, an SBI extension counter and the entire campus has been made disabled friendly through construction of ramps and installation of accessibility software for blind students in the library.

Societies and Extra-Curricular Activities

Hindu has some of the most active and prestigious societies in the university. Most prominent amongst these are Ibtida [the Hindi dramatics society], English Debating Society, Masque [English dramatics society] and the Choreography society. Most societies have multi-tier selection processes of their own and interested students can apply once they've secured admission to the College.

Placement Cell

The College has a placement cell called Disha. Every year several Indian and multi-national companies recruit from the College. 20+ companies [including Google, Mckinsey, TCS etc] recruited from the College in 2006-07.

Library

Hindu has one of the largest libraries [spanning four floors] in the university. The library has over 120,000 books in its catalogue.

Sports

Hindu has one of the largest sports grounds in the campus. The cricket team of the College has been considered one of the best in the university for decades.

Alumni

Just off the top of my head some famous living alumni include:

KK Birla [businessman and owner of Hindustan Times]
YK Sabharwal [former Chief Justice of India]
Vishal Bharadwaj [film maker]
Kapila Vatsayan [cultural critic and MP, Rajya Sabha]
Prem Prakash [educationist]
Ajay Bijli [MD of PVR Cinemas]
Soni Sangwan [journalist]
Ajay Jadeja [cricketer]
Gautam Gambhir [cricketer]
Akash Chopra [cricketer]

The college has good linkages with its alumni. It was recently announced that Vishal Bharadwaj would be picking some talented actors from the college for his next film.

The College Parliament

The Hindu College parliament is a unique insitution amongst undergraduate colleges in the country. All students of the college are de-facto members of the parliament and elect amongst themselves the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. Its then the prerogative of the PM to appoint his cabinet, members of which oversee various aspects of the functioning of the college like canteens, academics, sports etc.

In the past, the College parliament has witnessed some historic debates and almost all national leaders have addressed it sometime or the other. But in recent times, the insitution seems to have lost some of its vitality, and there have been just 4 parliament sessions over the last 3 years.

HELLO everybody..I am Pragya doing History hons from HINDU College.Although Ritwik has already given a nice description about our college but he has missed out some very interesting details..
well guys every college offers good courses but none of them (at least in saddi Dilli) conducts puja on Valentine's Day..yes you got it right..I am talking about
''DAMDAMI MAI'' geek ki puja...

Every Valentine's Day, a group of male students mostly hostel residents, offers prayers to "DAMDAMI MAI" and celebrates female icon who has hogged headlines for all the wrong reasons. This year it was KATRINA KAIF's poster bedecked with garlands.

The tradition of Damdami Mai ki Puja is self invented. She is
supposedly the goddess of girls and the puja is performed by male students to please her on this special day. The male students take out a procession in the college with one of them dressed up as a pandit carrying all the material for aarti. Now when there is an aarti there has to be prasad too. And the prasad contains doses of BHANG.drunkenbounce

Our college CANTEEN (yup, call it CANTEEN not CAFE:lol: ) is famous for SEEKH KEBAB ROLLS @ Rs.18/- only,RAJMA CHAWAL and FRESH JUICES..
so....three cheers for HINDU COLLEGE:cheers: cheers cheers

Hey, I'm Arjun from Hans Raj College (the best college in town lol! ). Well I see that no-ones posted here about ma college (all are busy studying....), so I might as well take some time out of my laziness Wink .

Well Hans Raj College is situated in North Campus, neighbourin Hindu and KMC. It is very close to the Kamla Nagar Market, the Bunglow Road.

The college is well-known for its academics especially science courses, and also its sports. It is also known for its economics and mathematics courses. Every year our college gets a lot of ranks in the Delhi University Exams, including many 1st ranks.

In sports our basketball team is one of the best in the university. We've won so many tournaments in the past one year. Our college also has a good shooting and cricket team. Apart from these we also have chess, badminton, football, swimming, etc.

And our famous princi (SR Arora) is so awesome (he doesn't even let us listen to music in the college.....Mad ).

And the best places of all, Lover's Points (though I see less of lovers, and more of smokers, but still....). You have a nescafe right inside it, and Dhansingh serves you food from the canteen here. This is the REAL Hans Raj (lol..joking, you'll see that in the class rooms). You can see students studyng, playing, smoking, sleeping (yes, sleeping) here. And next to it is the college canteen, where you have delicioud food at cheap prices Smile And the fresh juice we get is an instant hit with the students. The variety of rice are also very nice.

A very good college for all the freshers, and all those aspiring to go to bollywood (with SRK, Shiny Ahuja, Parvin Dabas from our college) its a rising platform Smile.

Yeah pragya is right. Somehow I completely forgot about the valentines day "puja". Maybe because it wasn't that great this year. But still, its a vibrant tradition in the college.

PostSubject: ABOUT MY COLLEGE....THE STEPHENTINE EMPIRE   Fri Jul 06, 2007 8:31 pm

Hi der!! m SOWMYA SUSANNA CHRISTOPHER frm da grt 125 YR OLD STEPHENTINE EMPIRE(it rulz...dts wt ppl thnk bt honestly i thnk its jus anothr college in DU with a brand name).m an aspiring ECONOMIST of da empire (mind u!! nt by choice bt by chance).one of my fellow subjets has given an account bt read on 2 hear my version of it.

ABOUT THE EMPIRE

The ST STEPHENS empire was born as an Aquarian on 1st Feb 1881.It was founded by da emperors of the Cambridge Missions.Rev Valson Thampu was crowned da emperor in da beginning of this academic session, dethroning Dr.Anil Wilson.

The motto of da emipre is "AD DEI GLORIAM",da Latin for "To the glory of God".The colours of da empire are Martyrs' red and Cambridge blue. The badge is a martyrs' crown on a field of martyrs' red, within a five pointed star, edged with Cambridge blue.Around da five pointed star, which stands for India,is the Cambridge blue border, representing da impact of Christian Cambridge upon our country. On da crown, which is coloured red represents ST STEPHENS,da first christian martyr,in whose memory da college is built, stands the martyrs' crown in gold, that awaits the person who will give his life for truth.

EXTENT OF THE EMPIRE

The empire is surrounded by da main road dat leads 2 KMC n further 2 KNAGS,on da right;the road that leads 2 da north campus university on the left;facing archrivals HINDU in the front and turning its back hypocritically on the Laila Majnu Garden...lol.

The empire is divided into 6 main blocks namely Rud(rudra) north,Mukh east n Mukh west with guys n gays,ANGA(Alnutt north guys/gays assn)
Rud(rudra) south with lasses n lesbians and finally ASLA(Alnutt south ladies/lesbians assn).the hosteliers are known as rezzies...tk note!!

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE EMPIRE

The food court of the empire is exclusively called 'THE CAFE'...nobdy will tell u its location if u happen 2 ask,"where is da canteen?"....BEWARE....its a put off 4 da ELITE STEPHENIANS...lol...attitude huh....well watever!! by the way....hers wer u can fag without da thin actually in ur mouth....its THE SMOKING ZONE.mince cutlets score the highest on the menu.

The DHABA TREE which absorbs gallons of NIMBU PANI nt water,is where da subjects take a break...an alternative 2 The Cafe....a perfect hangout 4 bunkers...wer they can gorge on steaming hot samosas n gulab jamuns...da energising nimbu pani is grt after a long hard wait 2 b done wid lectures.

The reading chamber of the empire where apart from the research work the subjects slip into brief and quick make out sessions for a break, behind columns and rows of ceiling high racks of ancient books.

The JCR n LCR are perfect....sum respite frm da hectic schedule...wid an idiot box 2 entertain u n bean bags 2 make u feel comfy.wat more can u ask for huh?? The IRC(internet cafe)...THE ORKUTTIN ZONE...Is a koool place in its own way.

The subjects are compelled to pay taxes for the garden which they cannot use.Nevertheless cnt deny da fact dat the campus is green n grt.oh by the way not missing out on da loos...seems dey r da best ones in DU.chk it out 4 urslf n pl gv ur feedbk...lol

The biggest event of the empire is HARMONY (not that the subjects live in perfect harmony with each other)....a time 2 freak out and go crazy with all kindsa crazy competitions n events)...its a GALA time.we dnt allow our archrivals 2 peep in during our fest....our boundary walls grow high n secure. The other major festivals are THE NATONAL ARTS FEST and THE NATIONAL SCIENCE FEST...the only time wen ppl frm othr empires realise that the Stephentine empire has a science block 2 n da sciencees feel very much a part of the empire...lol.

The fucchas are addressed every morning by the emperor...it feels like a school within a college(gud old school days)...lol.guess wat? v evn hv 2 gv attendance 4 it...dnt fall off ur chair...lol....strange but true.

This renouned empire consists of only learned ppl....courses offered are....English,History,Economics,Maths,B A Prog,Philosophy,Sanskrit,B Sc,Physics and Chemistry.

There are almost 26 societies and clubs both active n partly active of which da well known are MUSOC(Music soc),Shakespeare soc,Social service league (SSL),Debating soc,Campus placement cell,Gandhi study circle,Photography soc, wildlife soc,Spic Macay, to name a few.

PostSubject: IT TAKES AN ERA TO BE PART OF HISTORY....   Mon Jul 09, 2007 10:56 pm

The "BULLS"(the official name given to the main gate guards) of my college asked one of the most famous personalities in bollywood today for his Identity Card every time he enterded the gate: The College - JAMIA MILLIA ISLAMIA; The Man - Shah Rukh Khan. Well, thats not exactly all that Jamia is to be remembered for. It is one of those landmarks of our struggle for Independence that has concocted for itself a heady mix of heritage and pride.
People, I am MUFTAH AHSAN SIDDIQI, starting out with my second in year in this esteemed institution as a student of Sociology, and take pride in the fact that I'm part of one of the best institute in Delhi. Keep your eyes open, your ears clear and your heart free of any bias, and I'll be revealing to you why JAMIA MILLIA ISLAMIA stands apart from the Delhi crowd.......

heyy..this is Madhumita from GARGI COLLEGE.one of the many colleges present in the SOUTH CAMPUS..but yes with a distinct identity of its own.a A leading south campus college..its a college for women offering courses in Arts,Humanities and Science and Education

Gargi was established in the year 1967.The college is located in South Delhi on the Siri Fort Road near the historic Siri Fort, which is visible from the college playground. The third floor windows of the commerce block also overlook the Siri Fort playing facilities

Gargi College, one of the two colleges in Delhi to have been awarded the prestigious College with a Potential for Excellence grant, by the University Grants Commission in the year 2004-2005, was chosen because of its holistic approach towards teaching and its excellent track record in academic and other aspects of college functioning. Nine departments namely Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology, Zoology and the Women’s Development Centre are currently engaged in innovation and experimentation in the undergraduate programme, using modern methods of learning and evaluation. This award is in recognition of the endeavour of the college to engage in advanced research and socially purposeful projects over and above the regular college events.

Gargi College was named after an enlightened woman named Gargi, figuring in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishada of the Vedic Age. She emerges as an intelligent and bold person embodying the spirit of inquiry juxtaposed with faith as is shown by her penetrating and challenging questions to the great sage Yajnavalkya.

Yes GARGI also has a good well stocked and updated library, excellent labarotaries for the Science as well as the Psychology dept...its sprawling lawns are the favourite hangout zone of the students if you dont take into consideration CAFE COFFEE DAY and MITHAAS right opposite the college gates.Students get to feast themselves both in the highly economical and tasty food as well as food from both the food joints mentioned above.

Gargi is one of the colleges of Delhi University which are "leaving their mark " across the colleges when the talks are about EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. Gargi is a powerhouse of talents( literally). Our socities like SPARX(choreogragphy),UPSTAGE(dramatics),Kshitij(street play),Samaranjini(Indian music society) are making their prominence being felt within the university and beyond..SPARX AND UPSTAGE left students spellbound at BITS PILANI and IIT DELHI.

The student retreat is the leisure zone within the college..great job by the union members...when bunking classes retreat is where you need 2 head..

Life in a girls college isnt half bad as people make it sound to be..its amazing. You are the mistress of your zone and you leave no stones unturned in making the best of it.

When you want to have a beautiful combination of academics and ECA's...GARGI IS WHERE YOU NEED TO HEAD PEOPLE

cheers.
Madhumita
